Newcastle-based Mr Maliks hopes to curry favour with judges to make competition final

The chef, who has 20 years’ experience, is now planning the dishes he will serve up to a panel of judges if he gets shortlisted for the national competition.The 38-year-old, above, opened the venue off London Road last year after running a takeaway in Chesterton.

He said: “I think we have been nominated because people like our food.

“We don’t use artificial colouring like a lot of other restaurants. We are more authentic and fresh.

“It’s like a puzzle, if you do everything right you can’t go wrong and it helps that all of the staff are very passionate.”
